Controls Engineer

Specific Responsibilities:

·         Develop controls and electrical standards: This includes PLC programming standards (including the development of standard code blocks), electrical design and drawing standards, HMI/SCADA standards, as well as helping to develop commissioning standards.

·         Write standard code and AOIs: Write, test, review, critique and implement Descriptions of Operations, PLC code, etc for standard code blocks and AOIs. 

·         Lead projects: Serve as the lead engineer, technical consultant and/or reviewer for customer-sold projects.  Write code, review code written by peers and colleagues, travel to sites, assist with testing, and other activities needed for project success from Electrical and Controls perspectives.

·         Establish processes and procedures: Write, review, and assist with the implementation of various processes and procedures aimed at driving consistency in execution for the department.  This may include process documentation, work instructions, flow charts, responsibility matrices, and other documentation as needed to ensure high quality and consistent means of work across the department. 

·         Mentor and Coach: Help grow the engineering talent on the team by training, mentoring and coaching colleagues to improve their technical and organizational skills.  Participate in interviews to recommend new hires. 

·         Controls Support: Participate in the support rotation as needed to ensure optimal uptime for our customers.  This involves being on-call for customers during designated times and troubleshooting, advising and fixing customer issues while on-call.  This is primarily remote support only. 

·         Other duties as necessary, particularly those called out in the Sr. Controls Engineer job description. 

 

 

Other Responsibilities as required:

 

·         Provide assistance and training with regard to the company’s drawing standards, CAD operation, programming, and file management software

·         Provide assistance and training on data modeling

·         Assist with application engineering and quoting activities as required to assist Concepting & Estimating

·         Assist in generating quote requests for special equipment and subcontracted services

·         Provide general information and documentation as requested

·         Assist in the development and assembly of control system documents

·         Perform related tasks on special projects as directed

·         Use our standard procedures, forms, and software to perform job functions

·         Perform other duties as required for business operations

 

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

·         Expertise in PLC logic and controls (RSLogix, Siemens, GE)

·         Experience in Java, microcontroller programming, and HDL languages

·         SQL, Access, and Excel

·         Electrical system and panel design

·         Allen Bradley Panel View use/programming AB Servo and AB VFD drives

·         HMI Programming, specifically

·         Familiarity with VFD’s, encoders, network/Ethernet controls

·         Strong problem-solving skills

·         Strong competence with Microsoft Office products

·         Ability to independently troubleshoot equipment for improvement for quality and delivery

·         AutoCAD Electrical

·         Ability to read prints, AutoCAD, interpret and modify electrical schematics

·         Understanding of conveyors system programming

·         Networking, Ethernet, DH+, RIO

·         Provide appropriate level of decision making in the layout and design function

·         Possess good verbal and written communication skills

·         Ability to maintain a good working relationship with the customers, vendors, and our team members and to use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority

·         Electrical Background (electrician or technician) helpful

·         Control panel building and design helpful

·         Simulating modeling exposure

·         Rockwell Automation’s Emulate3D experience helpful

·         Ability to succeed with limited direction and supervision

          50% travel requirement

 

 

Education and Experience:

 

·         Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other related field

·         Experience in wiring and reading wiring diagrams

·         7+ years in warehouse automation controls

·         2-3 years electro-mechanical experience

·         Rockwell software including, RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, and Factory Talk
