Biomedical Equipment Technician – Mid-Level
Overview:
A healthcare technology solutions provider is seeking a skilled Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET II) to support the maintenance, inspection, and repair of medical devices. This role requires experience in troubleshooting and repairing electronic and electro-mechanical medical equipment to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Duties:
- Conducts preventive maintenance, performance checks, and safety inspections on medical equipment.
- Diagnoses and repairs various electronic and electro-mechanical systems, including patient monitoring devices, infusion systems, defibrillators, and other healthcare technology.
- Uses specialized testing instruments such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, safety analyzers, and simulators for equipment assessment.
- Reads and interprets technical schematics, service manuals, and mechanical drawings to support troubleshooting efforts.
- Assembles, disassembles, and replaces components as needed to restore equipment functionality.
Administrative & Compliance Responsibilities:
- Accurately documents service activities and maintains records in accordance with internal policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Adheres to industry standards and workplace safety protocols, including infection control and hazard communication regulations.
- Maintains an up-to-date understanding of medical equipment functions and risks associated with its use.
- Provides on-call support as required to ensure timely response to urgent repair needs.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of experience working in a hospital-based biomedical engineering program or at least five years with a medical equipment manufacturer in a technical service role.
- Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or equivalent training through military or other specialized technical programs.
- Strong knowledge of circuit analysis, microprocessor-based systems, and electronic troubleshooting at the component level.
- Experience managing inventory and ordering parts for medical device repair and maintenance.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with healthcare accreditation standards such as TJC (The Joint Commission) and Environment of Care (EOC) requirements.
- AAMI Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician is preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to multiple locations if needed.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in tight or confined spaces as necessary.
- Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. unassisted and up to 60 lbs. with assistance.
- Willingness to work with potentially hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
