We are currently initiating a search for a Senior Roadway/Highway Engineer to join our growing Transportation and Infrastructure Team. This candidate shall perform the following:

 

  • Provide subject matter technical support and leadership for improvement, and/or construction of roadway and highway transportation infrastructure projects in the public and private sector including roadway rehabilitations, new roadway designs, interstate widening/expansions, roundabouts, toll-lanes, intersection improvements, and bridge rehabilitations. 
  • Provide situational guidance to junior engineers ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.
  • Assist in the management, growth, and development of the company’s transportation group.
  • Plan, organize and supervise engineering activities on roadway/highway transportation related projects.
  • Represent projects and the firm at meetings and conferences.
  • Make recommendations on project staffing.
  • Assist with technical concepts in proposal development, preliminary design phases, and presentations to client.
  • Assure that engineering services are commensurate with professional standards, client requirements, budget control scheduling, cost engineering/control, quality control and project objectives.
  • Provide innovative solutions related to the design of roads, highways, roundabouts, intersections, sidewalks, transit structures, and other significant transportation projects. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with owners, contractors, and sub-consultants.
  • Maintain and continue to develop the firm's reputation for technical excellence in transportation engineering.

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline (Master’s Degree is a plus).
  • 10+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience.
  • Professional Engineer license required in the State of Ohio (multi-state a plus).
  • Proficient knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation and new design projects.
  • Working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Supervise/review a variety of design and analysis functions for road/highway and related projects.
  • Supervise/review aspects of design including vertical alignments, horizontal impacts, cross-sections, super-elevations, and grading and permit/plan preparation.
  • Supervise/review complex engineering computations and analyses, material quantity takeoffs, estimates and surveys.
  • Completes a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes. Frequently interfaces with other Engineering disciplines as well as other departments.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
  • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of roadway/highway facilities, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
