Summary of the Tool and Process Engineer:
Tool and Process Engineer with the tool and fixture design and procurement experience is required to design cost-effective jigs and fixtures to the prototype and lab operation for one of our clients in the Michigan area. This is a solid stable and innovative company which is working on the emerging high-technology products to cater to the market. If you have strong knowledge about the principles of design of effective jigs and fixtures for precision assembly and test equipment, then this position is well suited to you.
This is a 5 year old automotive electronics R&D group working on BLEEDING EDGE technology. You will work on the latest technologies and be part of a team that is recreating how automobile chassis systems will be in the future. This is the start-up type environment without the risk as it has virtually unlimited funding from a major parent organization. Think of all the new driverless cars and the development of the electronic systems and you’ve got it covered! Everything from concept thru production will be in your domain. Responsibilities of the Tool and Process Engineer:
Provide cost-effective jigs and fixtures to the prototype and lab operation, by designing / concepting and documenting custom fixturing and tooling
Procure and coordinate delivery of tooling and or detail drawings from outside sources.
Coordinate design and construction of machines and equipment to specification with outside sources
Coordinate Equipment Design and build to Specification; Provide mechanical specification input. Manage timeline and budget for equipment builds
Ensure the use of high repeatability, wear resistant and cost-effective standard design practices
Coordinate with Tool sources to ensure jigs and fixtures are manufactured correctly and on time
Maintain fixture drawings, revision levels, and documentation when making modifications to fixtures
Provide support to lab and prototype operations for existing fixtures
Collaborate with Quality to ensure all equipment is certified and instill 5S implementation
Work with Design Engineering to improve manufacturability of component parts
Initiate cost reduction projects for both material and labor related issues
Identify and develop process and equipment needed to produce specific products, parts, and components, including controls
Maintain all Lab Equipment and keep housekeeping of the area to ESD standards
Documents process requirements and specifications
Work with production process design team to develop process requirements for mechatronic product production
Provide design for assembly support to design engineering
Considers tooling flexibility and quick change over in designs
Develop and specify process improvements, including control requirements
Qualifications of the Tool and Process Engineer:
BSME, specialty in tooling or process development preferred
Strong knowledge about the principles of design of effective jigs and fixtures for precision assembly and test equipment.
Knowledge of locating and support fixtures, precision couplings for rotating motor calibration and test equipment
Good experience with tool and fixture design and procurement
Skilled in CAD Catia or other similar CAD systems
Ability to work from new part or existing tooling drawings to apply basic design factors
Ability to maintain tolerances, the location of clamps and supports to position and secure while not distorting, and the ability of the jig to resist tool pressure
Knowledge of estimating costs and build times
Experience with electric motor or generator or electronics assembly and test equipment will be a plus.
Compensations of the Tool and Process Engineer:
Salary Range: $70 to 100K/year, depending on experience
Travel: As and when required
Relocation Assistance: Subject to review
Visa Sponsorship: Subject to review
Knowledge of the following areas will be helpful -
"Process Engineering", jigs, fixtures, drawing, Catia, Cad, component, 5S, motor, generator, "electronics assembly", "test equipment"
